Good Day and welcome to
this week’s edition of my newsletter. I hope that you have been enjoying a
prosperous week and will be able to enjoy a weekend filled with activities
that you are able to enjoy completely! Last week we discussed how life might
be for us if “changed the illusion”. This week let’s talk about:
The Power of NO
When we find ourselves in a
Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Store trying to decide which of 31 flavors we will
choose, our first job is to say NO to all but one or two flavors. I would
chose a double dip cone with butter pecan and chocolate chip. What’s your
choice?
Only after
you’ve said NO to 30 flavors,
Can you
say YES to one.
If we have trouble deciding
which movie to see or which restaurant to choose, we are among the majority
who may never get to have what we really want from life. To have the life we
want, we must be able to reject all other options and settle on just the
one.
To find our way out of our
box, we must find the courage to say “no” to what we don’t want. We must
kick ourselves out of the current nest before we can move into a bigger,
better one. Those who have trouble making choices in life will not have the
grit to choose out of unhappy circumstances. They just don’t know how to say
“no”.
Our “no” gives us back
our power
In a contest between ‘yes’
and ‘no’, it would seem to many that ‘yes’ is the more powerful of the two.
But I disagree! For my money ‘no’ is the big winner, by far! When we are
faced with a situation we don’t like and can find the courage to say
no to it, we will be amazed at the power that gives us. Having found
our ‘no’ power, we will have found all the power we need to say ‘yes’ to
what we do want.
In fact, learning how to
say ‘no’ is an important part of finding ourselves. By saying ‘no’
emphatically, we decide what does NOT belong in our life; by saying ‘no’, we
have declared who we are not. When we are clear about what we don’t want in
our life, we will know what we want. When we know what we want, we will know
who we are.
If we are not pleased with
our circumstances, we can change that state of affairs by giving ourselves
permission to say, “no—I’ve had enough”.
The first step in the
direction of living our dreams is in saying ‘no’ to whatever seems to stand
in the way of our living them. If we have a swamp full of alligators, we
must pull the plug and drain the swamp before we can experience a life
without alligators.
Where did the alligators
go? Our swamp was an illusion created to maintain the reality of our
perceived problem. The alligators disappeared because they were a part of
that illusion.
We have the God-given power
to create our own new reality. We do that every time we make a new choice
about who we will be—or won’t be.
So, changing the quality of
our life must begin with the realization that each and every thought we
think, throughout the day, has the power to keep us in our box or set us
free.
Next week we will discuss
“The Power Switch” that turns on that great power within us.
I look forward to talking
with you next time! Good bye for now.
