So far we have
discussed “why we can’t choose”, “choosing not to choose” and “how do I
choose”.
This week I would
like to talk about, “You’ve already chosen”. Read the article and see if you
can see circumstances in your life where “You’ve already chosen” could be
applied to you.
You’ve already
chosen
So, do yourself a
big favor; take a long hard look at what you have in life, and accept the fact
that what you have sends a message, loud and clear, about who you are being.
Who you are really, is an individualization of God; who you are being is a
whole other story. Knowing who you are gives you the power to change who you
are BEING!
So, take the next
logical step toward changing your circumstances. Take full responsibility for
what you’ve created. For instance: if you’re unhappy about some happening in
your life, accept the fact that you chose unhappiness as your way of
responding. When you ‘get’ that you chose to be unhappy, you have just
replaced your victim role with a more powerful position of being responsible
for your own feelings. With this exercise, you’ve rediscovered your power to
choose to be happy!
You have chosen who
you would BE, and what you have now is the result of that choice. Who you are
(your self-concept) was no accident, and you are not the victim you perceive
yourself to be. Your parents didn’t make you who you are. You did that by
acting or reacting—by choosing who you would be under life’s circumstances.
Your parents only gave you the body that houses your mind; you alone decided
what to put into your mind.
We become what we
think about; accept that truth, and realized that your thoughts created who
you are BEING. You can blame your parents, blame your circumstances, blame
whatever you want, but you are only kidding yourself. Your thoughts have made
you who you are. No one else got into your head to think those thoughts. You
must take full responsibility for your creation if you are ever to find your
way out of the box.
The context of
your life will always determine the content. If you seem trapped by your
circumstances, your entrapment is only an illusion. You will free yourself
from bondage when you realize that you can change the content by changing the
context, and you ARE the one in charge of the context.
It’s only an
illusion
As long as you
continue to believe that your reality is solid, locked in stone and
unchangeable, you will find no way out of the box you’ve built for yourself.
(It’s sometimes hard to realize that some of the circumstances in our lives
are self inflicted.) But once you can see your reality as a figment of your
imagination, you will have found your power of choice and the way out.
Our realities are
each an illusion, built out of nothing more solid than attitudes, opinions and
points of view. You and I wee given the power to choose who we each would be,
and an ego as the means by which we would experience that choice as our
separate realities. Individual realities would not be possible if we didn’t
have an ego that performs the miracle of making our individualized realities
seem real.
Each and every one
of us on this planet has the power to create his or her own reality, and we’ve
each done that. The remarkable thing here, is that while living under exactly
the same circumstances, we can each experience life from a different point of
view, (pretty amazing huh?) each living our lives in entirely different
realities.
Now that you’re
aware that your perceived reality is an illusion, you must know that your true
reality is not in your circumstances, but in your attitude about those
circumstances.
Changing you reality is as simple as changing your point
of view.
Next week we talk
about “Changing the Illusion”.
