Problems vs
Situations
In every moment of now, we
have a choice; we can either choose to be totally present, in the moment, or we
can let our ego mind take charge. Remember, all we will ever really have in life
is our moments of now. Now is the
only place where the Real Self exists.
So how often will you visit the now?
Here is another powerful
reason for our learning to live in the now;
in the now there are not problems - only
situations. And of course, when
we are in the now we have two choices to handling any situation?
We can either deal with
it.
Or we accept it as what
is so and move on.
But if ego is faced
with that same situation, it projects that situation into the future where it
becomes a problem. Then it sweeps the problem under the rug and hides from it.
(fear) Or it sets the problem up as a reason for worry. And if the situation is
not handled, the situation becomes our reason for feeling guilty.
If we want an end to the
problems in our lives, we must not let our ego struggle with situations when
they show up. If we can step up to the plate and into the now, this will allow
our Real Self to deal with it. In the now, we will wither handle a situation or
accept it as what is so -- so what!
Notice that, in
becoming clear about the meaning of presence, we are being present.
Try the following exercise in being present.
First choose to be totally present and alert,
presence in the absence of thought. Then listen, with curious wonder, for your
next thought. In being present we are not being the thinker; we are the
observer, monitoring our ego mind's activity. As the watcher, we are curiously
waiting for our next thought to show up.
Of course
as long as we are totally present in the
moment, there will be no thought because the thinker in us is not present.
So we may wait a while for that next
thought to show up.
Notice, to wonder what our
next thought will be, we must be present. While there in the now, allow yourself
to experience the stillness of your mind and the resulting peace. Enjoy the
moment of peace and make note of how long it lasts.
Notice, that when our
consciousness slips below the line of unconsciousness, thoughts rush in to fill
the void and ego mind will be back in full tilt. With practice, we will be able
to maintain and enjoy those moments of peace for longer periods of time.

Unless you've grown in consciousness far beyond the
average, your ego is now in charge of your thoughts and your emotions 99 percent
of the time. And, with ego running your life, you've been on an emotional roller
coaster.
To escape that up-one-day, down-the-next emotional ride
you'll be putting the Real You in charge of your attitudes and your thoughts.
In case you were wondering why ego, not spirit, is
running your life, it's because perhaps, until now, you were not aware of your
ego, and you've never actually chosen to BE the one in charge. Up until now, you
probably haven't realized you were not your ego.
But now that you know, you'll be choosing to BE the one
in charge. Your new BEING choice, to BE the one in charge, will require a
transformation in consciousness, and that will be the most important decision of
your life.

Proving Who You Are
Acting-as-if is our way of being and becoming
the person we've chosen to be.
It's our way of perfecting our performance as we learn
the role. The acting takes place while we are in the process of trying to prove
who we are. But once we've become that person, we will have nothing left to
prove and there will be no further need to act-as-if, that is, until we create a
new role to play.
The people in our lives are there, playing opposite us,
so that we'll get to experience being who we are. They provide the space in
which we get to demonstrate to ourselves that we are who we say we are. And when
we pretend to be something we're not, hopefully, one of those nice people will
confront us with the truth.

The Lesson Here
The lesson for you in this example: your
problem, as you perceive it, is never what it appears to be; the real
problem is in who you're BEING relative to the perceived problem. The
solutions, therefore, will always be a change in who you are BEING.
Notice in the previous example that I had a
clear picture of my problem, so clear that I couldn't see past the
problem to its solution. From my point of view, a solution didn't exist.
I wanted out of the problem, but I had no clue about how to solve it.
The answer to my problem came with the message "we become what we
think about." From that, I got, loud and clear, that I could change
who I was BEING and the problem would no longer exist!
All I knew prior to this revelation was that I
had a serious problem and wanted a way out. Notice that who I was being
at the time could not say what I wanted; I could only say what I didn't
want.
Knowing what you want from life begins
with knowing what you don't want in your life.
