Avoided Pain
When we experience pain at a level
where we come to fear for some aspect of our being, we seek to shut it down,
reject it from our consciousness. We do this by building a wall of resistance
between it and our conscious perception of it
The avoided pain then becomes cocooned
in our resistance and we are shielded from it. Then, instead of that pain being
experienced, it becomes trapped in our being, and carried forward with us as a
wound. Because it was felt to be too painful to be completely experienced, it
was stored to be processed later.
Until that moment when we feel able to
deal with it, we will carry it forward as a wound. The shields of avoided
pain have become our story, our act. And
guess what, the only way you can heal that kind of wound is to experience the
pain. Fear is the avoidance of pain, "The only way out of fear is through it".
Your fear is a shield set up early on
in life to protect you, to shield you from the experience of some form of
emotional pain. The problem with avoidance is that experiencing that pain is
the only way to heal the wound.
Your freedom to BE is and will
always be outside the protective walls of your story.
And of course, the only way out is through. So, allow yourself to see whatever
fear you're facing as your ego's avoidance of some form of pain. To find your
way past that fear, ask yourself, "What is the painful experience I am trying to
avoid"?
And since the only way to be free of
that fear is to allow yourself to experience the avoided pain, remember the
rule: "Pain is part of the healing". And then allow yourself to see that the
only way out of fear is through the pain.
When you step into your fear, you
release it, for only one of two things can happen; either what you fear does not
happen, and you realize it was unfounded, or what you are fearing does happen,
and you realize that not only can you cope with it but it is the healing of a
wound, and you are liberated. Either way the fear is released. Either way you
experience the freedom to BE you on the other side of the fear.
If you want to heal your wounds, you
must put down the shields.

The Message
More than a child's fairy tale, The Wizard of Oz
has an important message for those of us who follow a yellow brick road
searching for the way home.
We are, whether we know it or not, in the never-ending
process of discovering who we really are.
We grow a little taller every time we conquer a fear
and rise above a problem. Facing fears and solving problems requires that we
become more than we were before facing the problem.
Each problem solved requires a transformation
in consciousness and takes us a step closer to home.
