Break The Pattern of Fight
or Run
Like everyone else on this planet, you
have a story. Your story runs your life. In fact, you see the world through the
eyes of your story. Your story defines your perception of reality. And your
reality concept (your perception) creates a polarity that must automatically
attract more of the same type, content or circumstance.
But what you may not have allowed
yourself to see, is that your story is like a broken record, that keeps repeating
the same noise over and over and over again. And what we often fail to realize,
is that we created our story.
Way back when you were too young to
make wise decisions, you came to conclusions about life that trapped you into an
ever-repeating pattern of consequences or results. Your story is not bad; it is
just the way you've chosen to express your individuality. But when your story is
running your life, you are not!!
You can rewrite that programming, if
you'll make up your mind to pay attention to the choice points and acquire the
Winner's Attitude in every situation you face, every day.
Notice that your patterned reactions to
life are just a part of your story, your ego's defense system for keeping you
safe from harm in those situations. Notice that
your story (the broken record) keeps playing the same tune over and over, and it
will continue until you step in to face the music (your fear) head on and choose
instead, the Winner's Attitude.
The problem with our story is that it
is habitual and so much a part of who we are being, we don't even notice or
recognize a fear or a patterned reaction when it shows up. Habits are sneaky
that way. So what you must do in taking charge of your life is to begin paying
close attention to how you feel in every situation.
Every form of upset, fear or negative
feeling is a signal, a "red flag", indicating that you are at a "choice point"
in your day or in your life. So when you get the "red flag", what will you
choose? Survival (fight or flight) OR the Winner's Attitude? What response seems
most natural to you in that moment? How would you normally react to this
situation?
However you react, is your story
clicking in with your habitual reaction. Pay attention to the "red flags".
Choose not to go there. Instead it's time to remember, once again, that you are
not your story; you are much more than that. You are an individualization of God
whose motivation is love, not fear.
In taking charge, allow yourself to
break the pattern of fight or run! Instead, face each fear, acknowledge it,
experience it full out as though what you feared had already happened, make that
outcome okay and then choose to play at The Game, (in that situation) full out,
with no attachment to the outcome.
Once you've decided to step out of your
cage and rewrite the blueprint that runs your life, you'll discover that your
story is just a series of patterned reactions to life. You'll notice that you
have a standard ego response for almost every situation faced. So, know this:
each time you break that mold and acquire the Winner's Attitude, you've put
spirit, the real you, in charge.
This week pay close attention to your
feelings and your habitual way of responding to each situation. Learn to
recognize the choice points and choose the Attitude of a Winner.
I said this last week, but it is worth
repeating, think of the Winner's Attitude as a muscle that needs strengthening
and then choose to practice the process of detaching. Begin with the little
fears and doubts and gradually build your strength.
To what are you attached?
-
To being right?
-
To a relationship that no longer
serves you?
-
To the outcome in some situation?
-
To the stuff you've accumulated?
-
To the status quo?
-
(You finish the list.)
With each attachment, see if you can
face your fear, let it go and acquire the Winner's Attitude in that situation.

Chapter 5 - The Winner's Attitude
"To God Or As God" - Pg. 50
...your ego mind will see every proposed change
of attitude, point of view or circumstance as a threat to its survival.
For your ego to keep you safe, the status quo must remain intact. So,
some dangers will be very real, but most of what you fear will be a
product of your ego's over-active imagination. In most cases, the danger
will seem real, even thought it is not.
Unfortunately, your fears have great manifesting
powers. Whatever you choose to believe must become your experience, your
manifested reality. It's the law! Your fears are simply negative faith in
the process of manifesting what you don't want; so if you are ever to win
big in the Game of Life, you must first conquer your fear of losing.

Chapter 11 - Who's In Charge?
from my book
"So, Why Aren't You Rich?" -
Pg. 286
Life looks like a roller coaster ride when we
view the experience from a subjective point of view.
The ups and downs are not caused by a
change of conditions, but by our reaction to the change.
And because we react, we are at the mercy of
every change in the status quo. The resulting change in our attitude
creates the wild emotional ride we call our lives. When we are angry or
reacting to our circumstances, the ego is doing the reacting...
If we don't have a goal, ego concentrates its attention
on maintaining the status of quo by playing right/wrong. It becomes angry and
defensive; it lies, cheats and pretends; it covers up the truth. When our ego is
focused only on survival, it operates out of fear...

Chapter 10 - Understanding Ego's
Resistance
from my book
"Being The Solution" -
Pg. 117
It's Slavery By Choice
As human BEINGS ignoring the truth, we've
enslaved ourselves to live lives that do not satisfy our needs, wants
and desires. We've chosen ignorance instead of awareness because we're
afraid of the truth. We ignore this liberating fact of life because it
doesn't fit our chosen concept of reality
So, we live in a perceived reality made up of
nothing more substantial than attitudes, opinions and points of view.
Those ideas are designed to keep us in bondage. We experience our lives
as egos determined to maintain our chosen viewpoint at the exclusion of
all others to the contrary. We don't hear the truth, because we don't
want to hear it.
We're in bondage, not because we're stupid, as
in lacking intelligence; we're in bondage because we are either unaware
or uninformed of this truth. And our lack of enlightenment is not
because the information has not been available to us, but because we've
chosen to ignore it.
Ignorance of the truth
is the root cause of human bondage. --Ernest
Holmes
