Confidence Is An Attitude
-
The Winning Attitude
Prior to World War II, I had been a carpenter, so when the war started, I
joined the Army Engineers. Our outfit, the 373 Engineers, had been assigned the
task of rebuilding a bombed out fort in Le Havre, France. That fort would be the
debarkation point for soldiers who had completed their tour of duty.
My job along with the 49 French carpenters in my charge was to repair windows
and replace all the blown out glass. These hand-made wooden windows had
fan-shaped glass panes on top and none of the glass shapes or sizes were
standard.
So, one by one, those carpenters brought me paper patterns for each piece of
glass. My job, as the expert glass cutter (or so I thought), was to cut
each piece to fit the pattern. Glass cutting was not a new thing to me, so I
thought I knew what I was doing, but I soon learned different.
Some of my confidence flew out the window with my first attempt to cut French
glass to a pattern. And with each attempt, I lost a little more of my
confidence. So, here's the picture: a French carpenter is standing over me,
watching me prove I don't know beans about cutting glass.
As my audience of waiting French carpenters with patterns continued to grow,
I became more and more embarrassed and frustrated with each failed cut. Finally,
my frustration turned to anger, and I decided I didn't give a damn how many
pieces of glass I broke.
That's when the miracle happened, it's what always happens when you make it
okay to fail. From that point on, every stroke of the glass cutter was
effortless and perfect, made with total confidence. Every cut broke where
intended and I cut glass like an expert.
I and 40 French carpenters were in awe of my transformation from klutz to
expert glass cutter. I want you to see, from this example, that confidence
comes only after you've made it okay to fail, and then have done, with a winners
attitude, what you feared doing.
Failure is nothing more serious than a learning experience. Have you made
failure your friend?

Chapter 4 - Money And You
from my book
"So, Why Aren't You Rich?" -
Pg. 86 & 87
We Have the Power
You and I have the power, whenever we're ready,
to say, "I Am" in a different way; to create a new reality for ourselves
by completing a new statement of being.....
Well, our power does exist, and we can use it
at any time to change our minds about who we will be under any and all
circumstances. What stops us from making a new choice is the fact that
we've already chosen.
We will be free to make a new choice,
only if we admit that our previous choice was
in error.

Chapter 8 - Choosing To Be Rich
"Being The Solution" -
Pg. 96
We become what we think about; accept that
truth, and realize that your thoughts created who you are BEING. You can
blame your parents, blame your circumstances, blame whatever you want,
but you are only kidding yourself. Your thoughts have made you who you
are. No one else got into your head to think those thoughts. You must
take full responsibility for your creation if you are ever to find your
way out of the box.
