By Acting As If You Already Had It,
You Become The One Who Will Have
What You Want From Life
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Last week I promised to show you how
"acting as if"
could change you into one who would have what you want from life.
To understand why
"acting as if"
works to that end, you must realize that you
don't have what you want from life, simply because it's outside the box. The
key to having what you want, will be the transformation in consciousness that
will take you outside the box.
But before you consider being
transformed, you will need to recognize the one in charge of maintaining status
quo, your ego. Your ego's job in life is to provide you with the experience of
being whomever you've chosen to be up to now. It does that job quite
successfully by screening out or resisting anything that doesn't fit your
current reality. Your trip outside the box just doesn't fit ego's concept of
reality. Expect your ego to resist your being transformed.
So, before you attempt your journey
outside the box, accept the fact that your ego does not want you out of the
box. It sees keeping you in the box as a matter of life or death. Your ego knows
it must die and be reborn in order for you to truly be out of the box. The box
(redefined) is your ego's concept of reality.
To keep you in the box your ego will
use
"What If..." and
"Yeah But.." thoughts, fearfully reminding you of past
failures, planting seeds of doubt about your ability to survive outside the box.
Notice that ego's doubtful, worrisome
thoughts are made powerful with fear, a most powerful emotion. To overcome
ego's fears and doubts, to find your way outside the box, you'll need to whet
your appetite for what's outside the box. You will need to empower your desire
to be out of the box with powerful, enthusiastic, anticipation of the benefits.
Everyone wants something from life
that they don't have. But if the desire for what you want is not powerful enough
to overcome ego's determination to keep you confined, you won't make it out of
the box.
The governing principle in your life
is:
We Become What We Think About.
Everything I teach is build around that
principle. But I may have forgotten to tell you that, it's how you feel about
yourself as you think those thoughts that gives them power.
Reword that governing principle to:
We Become What We Think About PASSIONATELY.
So, let's start with the realization
that every thought we have has power. Every
"I am" thought
you have throughout
the day has power. Those thoughts make you who you are. Every reaction to
circumstances in your life is actually a decision about whom you will be in
regard to those circumstances.
If you pay close attention to your
thinking habits, you will find that you think or say,
"I am"
hundreds of times
each day. More importantly, when you feel fear, doubt, anxiety or concern as you
think about your circumstances, you give negative power to that thought.
On the
other hand, if you think those thoughts with enthusiastic anticipation (as you
might feel when planning a vacation) you empower that thinking with positive
energy.
In the meantime, you must realize
that you are enslaved by your own thinking patterns. What keeps you in your box
is a habitual way of thinking about your situation that can only keep you
confined to your box. To exit the box, you will need to take charge of your
thinking habits.
As a coach I often hear people say "I intend to be rich,
or lose weight or improve a relationship" and then, the very next words out of
their mouth will be, some negative
"Yeah But" or
"What If" thought, designed to
keep them in the box.
All your thoughts are powerful!
If you really want out of
your box, you must become your own thought monitor.
This is the major reason many people will never make it in
their desire to be improve their lives. So, what can you do, to be one of those
who does move outside of your box?
Before you will come out of the box, your desire for what
you want must be more powerful than your ego's motivation for keeping you in
your box.
Your first job in this exercise, will be to empower your vision by
anticipating the benefits of having what you want that's outside the box.
Vision
is the key word in this paragraph.
In order to understand why visualization works when goal
setting often does not, I need to explain the difference between the two.
Setting a goal is about HAVING what you want at some
future time; visualization is seeing yourself BEING the one who already has it
(in present time consciousness).
Most people who set goals are not aware that a
transformation will be necessary before they can reach their goal.
Visualization
differs from goal setting in that it has transformation as
it's intent. Visualizing is done in present time consciousness, where you think
and feel the enthusiasm, the joy and satisfaction of being the successful person
you desire to be. Visualization is many times more powerful than goal setting,
because it is an
"act as if", practicing at being the one you would be if your
goal were already reached.
So, how vivid can your imagination paint the picture of
life outside the box, living your dreams. Empowering your vision is your
first step in coming out of your box. I suggest your start by creating a list of
20 reasons why you want to be rich or lose weight or improve a relationship.
Don't stop at 10. Create the whole list of 20. Then begin to think (and feel) what
your life would be like if you were already living your life filled with those
benefits of how you choose to improve your life.
Once your make the commitment to be rich and begin work on
your vision, you will need to monitor your thinking. Each time you hear yourself
saying or thinking some un-empowering thought, cancel it out with the Power
Pause.
