Your
Box Is Your Ego's Reality Being Demonstrated
But, You Are Not Your Ego!
A certain spiritual law, "The Law of Attraction",
dictates that you can have from life, only what belongs to you by right of
consciousness. That's why BE-DO-HAVE is the creative process in man.
You must first choose to BE whoever you would need to
BE, before you will be able to follow through with DOing whatever you would
DO, in order to have what you want from life.
Shakespeare wrote: "assume a virtue if you have it
not." He is saying, assume that virtue in order to have it - as in, "I
assumed an air of confidence that I was far from feeling".
Dale Carnegie said,
"Act enthusiastic and you will be enthusiastic!"
This is a good example of what Shakespeare was suggesting. This is not
pretending, it is "acting as if"
with the intention of BEING.
Dale Carnegie Seminars have used this formula for
decades to transform the lives of their participants. And those
participants, after just a few short weeks of
"acting as if", found
themselves speaking in front of an audience and transformed into
self-confident, enthusiastic individuals. Their changed attitudes had to
have effected every relationship they had, making very noticeable
differences in family relationships, friends and work related relationships.
One of the Dale Carnegie sessions is an exercise based
on Carnegie's famous, "Act enthusiastic," saying. When I did that exercise I
had a difficult time, because the process seemed so out of step with
reality, so much like a deliberate sham. But, I was pleasantly surprised to
see how well the process worked to develop a real and natural enthusiasm for
life that I had never been able to express before.
My enthusiasm after that session spread into all areas
of my life. I had over 30 employees when I first did Dale Carnegie. My
employees were all infected by my newly-found enthusiasm and my business
from that point on, grew to over 100 employees. The changes in my life
didn't stop there.
As you might imagine, my relationship with my wife and
daughter were totally changed for the better as a result of my
transformation. Remember, my new enthusiasm came out of acting enthusiastic
in order to be enthusiastic. I call this process,
"acting as if". What
I would like for you to get from this discussion is that,
"acting-as-if" can be
the powerful tool that transforms you into the one who can HAVE whatever you
want from life.
Now, let's talk about
"acting-as-if" as your means of getting out
of your box. You see, coming out of your box is nothing more than
changing your mind about who you will be, whether you will be proactive or
reactive to the circumstances in your life.
Choosing a new way to be in regard to the problems in
your life, will automatically change the way life responds to you. In most
cases, the problem will just dissolve and disappear.
If you are really serious about wanting out of your
box, make a list of what would change in your life if you were already out
of the box. Then, during the next week, act and feel as if those changes had
already happened. I'm not suggesting that you go out and spend money you
don't have in the process of "acting as if".
I am suggesting that you change how you feel about money. Use the Power
Pause in this exercise to empower your vision of your new reality.
Next week, I will talk about the difference between
"acting as if"
and pretending.
